You may recognize these 2 from Jeni + Jon = Engaged. No? Why are you not keeping up with this blog? No excuses! Well, if you still want to hear about these pics, I’m going to share.
This couple had a simple but beautiful wedding on a golf course in Carmel, IN. For those from Louisville, people may refer to that as north Indianapolis. Its not though. It’s a gorgeous little town with the second worst idea for exiting roads (behind only Tom’s River, NJ – as far as places I’ve driven). I’m not certain that previous sentence made sense, but it made more sense than their roads. Anyways, not only did the picture perfect couple have a picture perfect day, they had the best best {not a stutter} man toast I’ve witnessed.
dbone – represent: (shot not well, as I was not expecting this…at all)
This post should be titled “In the nick of time.” We had originally scheduled these photos to be taken on 4 separate dates that were all rained out, but we persevered. We finally got together to make this magic the week before the actual wedding (which will be posted soon as well). I don’t know if the person who named Keeneland Racetrack appreciated the name, but it was definitely a keen-land to take pictures! Bazinga! Seriously though, 2 more super nice people, I’m not sure how I’m getting so fortunate with these people whose weddings I get to shoot but judge for yourself.
So, if you keep up with my Facebook, you’re probably wondering why this blog hasn’t been updated lately. And that is exactly the reason. Facebook has become the quick and easy way to get my art (I know, I know, I’m laughing too) on the interweb without coming up with a clever story to go with it. So, after a couple of months, here is my clever story for the Dillmans’ wedding.
This one really blew me away, literally. I have never been to such a blustery ceremony, I kept waiting for THIS to happen. But…it didn’t. The wind did nearly blow over my videographer, Hank, as well as wreak havoc on the seats. That didn’t stop this fine looking folks from getting together though. They pushed the craziness aside and danced the night away as husband and wife with some fun, but probably dangerous dancing (I’m going to be a great dad!).
Plus, a huge shout out to Carla at the Community Life Center for keeping this day rocking and rolling.
Ashley and Rob kicked of 2011 (months ago, but blogging seems to escape me) – which has become the year of the couples that could be models. These 2 got hitched in Southern Indiana at St. Marks United Church of Christ, a beautiful little place in New Albany. They had their reception right down the street at The Grand. If you have not been to the Grand, well, it is grand. It a classical looking theatre with a very modern vibe inside. The modern vibe makes it a great place if you are looking for a reception with flashing lights and a smoke-filled entrance to O Fortuna, or a best man toast with a tasteful use of the F-word. *Editor’s note: this reception had both! Check out the highlights and make note of the giant full moon we were blessed with that night as well. Enjoy…
Paul Routon to the rescue. Tragedy was averted when this couple’s photographer let them know she couldn’t shoot their wedding one week before the big day. Like Aquaman saving dolphins from a net (I am the king of analogies), I swam into action. For all of the stress that planning a wedding can cause, these 2 were some cool cucumbers and very photogenic to top it off. Bonus points for multiple Dougies in the groomsmen photos!
If you are a constant follower of this blog, then well…I’m sorry. This wedding post is the first since I posted this same couple’s engagement photos a few months back. I have been in a constant state of shooting and editing video and some may be posted soon, though it may not, because said video is for sale. Boom!
Anyways, these 2 were great again. Right before some big snow, they celebrated their love in Floyds Knobs, IN. Unfortunately, it was not before a giant rain storm. They didn’t let that get them down. They bowled, they married, they partied down. Here are some of the pics and there will be video of the wedding in the future. Enjoy!
These two were great! When we discussed possible location shoots for their engagement photos, they requested they have their dogs in the photos as well. And they brought 2 of the sweetest best behaved puppos I’ve met. After the shenanigans my Grover pulls at the house, this was a nice switch off. This shoot also included the most hiking I have done in years, but I think the final results are worth it. Keep an eye out because Lyndsey and Jason are getting married next month and their wedding photos and video will be posted here as well.
My greatest accomplishment as a photographer came before I took the first pictures of this couple. They responded to an ad I posted on Craigslist – which is the seedy flea market of the internet – and had just one requirement, I had to impress a mother. And, of course, being the charming and talented soul that I am *note sarcasm* I was able to ease her mind that I wasn’t just some clown out to ruin a wedding.
We shot the engagement session at the scene of the crime – where the proposal took place – the Indianapolis Museum of Art. And as a side note, this place is amazing and if you ever get the opportunity to go, you should jump on it. It’s beautiful on the inside and the outside. Unfortunately for us, the inside was closing as our session was scheduled to begin. So we wandered through the gardens, etc that surround the place and I think we captured some wonderful images, enjoy!
I first met Jenn at Campus Crusade for Christ on the University of Louisville’s campus. She was one of the “cool kids” that I related to – ‘cool kids’ meaning people who didn’t think my buddy Justin and I wrote the song, Hey Ya. We became friends, but like so many people, after graduation we drifted apart. But, also like so many people, we were reconnected on Facebook. Then, one day out the blue, a revelation. She had gotten married to the love of her life in a quick ceremony, but their family wanted a proper wedding and she was in need of a photographer.
It just so happened that I met her 3 criteria…(1) Friend (2) As tall as her husband – to avoid any angles that would make him look like a giant (3) Not creepy. Well, 2 out of 3 isn’t bad I guess. My wife and I flew to Maryland for the nuptials, and might I say, it was the ballingest wedding I have been a part of. It was so great that I had to add “ballingest” to my spell check program. Congratulations Thompsons on such a beautiful day!
Oh man, get your vows ready
It’s about to go down
Everybody in the place, hit the wedding deck
But stay on your bouquet-catching toes,
We running this, let’s go
Wed on a boat, wed on a boat
Everybody look at us
We’re getting married on a boat
Wed on a boat, wed on a boat
Going down the aisle
And getting married on a boat
Wed on a boat everybody take a look at me,
Straight marrying my sweetheart on the Ohio Sea
Tying the know, standing in a tuxedo coat
You can’t stop us from getting married on a boat
They’re taking pictures (click) and video tape
We drinking tea and eating salmon and its tasting great
I got my wedding dress, but no flippy-floppies
I’m drinking champagne at my wedding
But not getting sloppy
